maplight.org Site Maps Corporate Money to Politicians
I’m sure a lot of people will be interested in this.
I’m just going to give a quick example of one of the things you can do there before you go decide for yourself.
Let’s say I am interested in seeing the politicians and financial supporters of the S. 3804 – Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act.
I can easily see this info here which shows the following list of groups that have contributed finances toward supporting and opposing this bill, as well as the amount of financial support provided.
- Motion Picture production & distribution
- Entertainment Industry/Broadcast & Motion Pictures
- Entertainment unions
- Chambers of commerce
- Online computer services
- Communications & Electronics
- Consumer groups
A mouse-over will reveal the exact amount that group of lobbyists has contributed.
But wait, it gets even better! Scrolling down you will see a table of politicians which displays the amounts they have received both in support and opposition of the bill. You can really see which of them are Hollywood’s pocket.
- Boxer, Barbara D CA $509,492 $71,540
- Franken, Al D MN $467,737 $41,706
- Reid, Harry D NV $206,250 $101,050
- Leahy, Patrick D VT $192,100 $61,900
- Gillibrand, Kirsten D NY $188,600 $59,055
- Feinstein, Dianne D CA $172,466 $28,350
I really hate my state senators. Although, this is where Hollywood is so it’s no surprise.
On a side note, isn’t it interesting that all of the technologically knowledgeable groups are opposed to this technology oriented bill? There is a noticeable lack of support from those with relevant opinions on this, imo.
