Laurel Royalty

Hi. I’m a musician. I wrote a song once and it was really popular.

I really worked hard writing and recording this song. I probably put about two full work weeks into this single song. You work, right? When you work for eight hours a day for two weeks, you expect to continue being paid for those two weeks you worked, right? Please tell me you can relate to me on this because I fear there is a growing public opinion that this is somehow an unreasonable expectation.

If you are a carpenter and you build a chair, you expect to be paid every time someone sits in your chair, right? You put time and resources into building the chair. Doesn’t the world owe you for this? It is the duty of the world to see to it that you are taken care of. Decades from now, your grandchildren should continue being paid each time someone sits in your chair. Are you supposed to settle for just enough money to cover the cost of labor and resources?

What kind of world would we live in if we started expecting people to continue working if they are to continue to be paid? Imagine a bunch of idiots scuttling around every day, sitting in traffic, going to jobs they hate, all because they get paid by the hour. What kind of moron would settle for that deal? I mean, why bother working at all then? We need to maintain our God given right to get paid perpetually on a one-time effort before we are all toiling away working our entire lives for a salary.

Take it from me. I died today…

Despite my departure, my song is still played. I can’t be paid for it now, yet still it plays! They sing along. They dance. How can this be? I AM THE CREATOR! How can MY creation exist beyond ME!?

Still my child is sold…
