Has Educational Media Lost Its Monetary Value?

Saturday, December 3rd, 2011

I was disappointed to read of the prosecution against the admin of Student Bay, a Swedish file-sharing site dedicated to providing text books to students (or anyone else looking for a free education). Of all forms of pirated media that is available in abundance over the internet, educational texts are the most important and least found in the torrent and file-sharing community. Still, the demand appears to be there among students who feel that it is unnecessary and naive to be expected to spend around $1,000 per year on textbooks. Fedora + RPMFusion + ATI Drivers = Dilemma?

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010

As a Fedora user I’m very proud and happy with the OS, its stable fast fixes and works very stable with my system. Using Fedora since Fedora 6 release and love it!

ATI Catalyst and Mesa DRI Drivers

But I’m having trouble getting the right drivers working with out any errors or black screens that freeze. First, I had ATI Radeon 4850 HD which gave me a lot of stress and sleepless nights getting it working properly on Fedora 13. Most common problems were non supported with the default Fedora Kernel and updating the kernel after using last akmod-catalyst, which is the most recommended, will give you black screens on boot-up. Don’t even get me started about plain ATI’s drivers from AMD’s website.

Anyhow, in conclusion I gave up on AMD driver. Not only because AMD gave up on Linux users after late fixes but every time I try to install it into this or that Linux, there is nothing but problems. From X not starting to text console corrupt and the monitor going into sleep mode in X. They just can’t come up with anything working, so it’s much easier to stay away.
