Awesome Technology to be Available in a Decade!
Scientists have made a major breakthrough which will make that awesome technology you’ve been waiting on for fifty years finally available… in a decade! It seems like every tech article talking about some huge discovery made by scientists concludes with “scientists say we can expect to see this amazing doohickey ten years from now.”
One example of many. Start with the implication that the reader is an idiot if they just bought a 3d TV because it’s obsolete and end with saying that it won’t actually be obsolete for at least ten years. Be afraid! no wait, don’t actually be afraid, but thanks for stopping by to read anyway.
I propose that all such articles use the title of this post and just replace “awesome technology” with whatever is relevant. I’m sure the few tech geeks and those working in the relevant field of study will want to read it still. The rest of us can wait and stick to reading articles relevant to our own interests.
In times where one might easily have a hundred tweets linking to articles of interest, old journalist techniques for hooking readers into reading about nothing special are just inefficient and unnecessary.
